How filtration works

A filtration system slowly processes all of the water in your pool or spa. It filters debris through a medium, either sand or a cartridge, removing particles and debris.

However, the circulation that a filter creates will not reach every part of your pool. The parts that water does not circulate in are known as dead spots, and will eventually accumulate dirt and algae.

To fix this, run your filter for eight hours a day when the pool is in use. This creates a current to make sure every part of the pool is clear of dirt.

If you have a sand filter, you can clear it by a process called backwashing. You simply flip a lever and the dirt is flushed away to a waste system. It takes a minute to 90 seconds with another ten seconds for rinsing, then the filter resumes functioning.
